PLANT A MEDICINAL HERB GARDEN THAT YOU LOVE (AND THAT LOVES YOU BACK)

An 8-week live-online journey for gardeners and herbalists who want to deepen the practice of growing their own medicine.

Live online · Saturday mornings, 10AM–12PM (ET) · February–March · Ideal for growers in zones 4-6

Winter is the season for garden planning!

This is the time when gardens are born!  This online learning circle is an invitation into a calm, relational planning process, where we plan not just for medicinal herb production, but for resilience, connection and care.

WHO THIS CIRCLE IS FOR:

This online Learning Circle is for anyone interested in growing a medicinal herb garden and deepening the practice of growing your own medicine.

This is especially well-suited for you if you:

  • Are a beginner or intermediate herbalist

  • Grow (or want to grow) medicinal herbs for your home, family or community

  • Are interested in permaculture-informed gardening

  • Want to feel prepared before the growing season begins

  • Value learning in conversation and community (and are also able to digest slide-show presentations)

  • Appreciate a grounded, practical and respectful approach

YOU DO NOT NEED:

  •  A large garden space

  • Prior design experience

  • Advanced herbal training

You DO need curiosity, willingness and care.

WHAT WE WILL WORK ON TOGETHER:

Over eight weeks, we will move through a guided, cumulative planning process, including:

  • Clarifying your goals for growing medicinal herbs

  • Learning a permaculture-based approach to garden mapping, layout and design

  • Selecting medicine herbs suitable for your climate, land, and capacity

  • Planning for seed sourcing/starting and propagation

  • Harvesting strategies for optimal yield/medicinal quality

  • Drying, storage and plant prep for remedy making

  • Designing realistic systems that can evolve over time

  • Learning from one another's questions, insights and experiences

This is not a passive lecture-style course, it is a shared learning circle.

Learning Circles honour the collective wisdom of participants and makes space for 'horizontal learning'.  They are non-hierarchical.  While Nikola provides structured learning and guidance from her years of experience as a medicinal herb farmer and herbalist, the circle itself is a space where questions are welcome, experiences are shared, and collective knowledge is valued.  At the centre, we will hold ways of working with plants that are rooted in respect, relationship, and reciprocity.  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Gabrielle Arkett, Singing Nettle Herbs

"Nikola is an excellent mentor and teacher. She helped me clarify my vision and goals for my herbal business; worked with me on site assessments and how to work with my unique garden space; helped me with specifics like product development, pricing and task management; and supported me through the overwhelm and emotions involved in starting a business. This was a really valuable and helpful experience for me and I have been building on the work we did together for my first season in business. Thanks Nikola!"
