Hello
My name is Nikola Barsoum,
I'm a Clinical Herbalist student registered with the BCHA, a certified Permaculture Designer and an experienced small-scale organic farmer.
My focus is on working with medicinal herbs as a practitioner, educator and grower. I love exploring ways for us to stay well through local food and medicine supplies that prioritizes sharing/access, human health AND the health of lands that we live on.
ABOUT
Nikola Barsoum has been working as a small-scale organic/permaculture farmer for ten years focused on enhancing the local food supply, while integrating farming strategies that support biodiversity and ecological health.
After graduating as a certified Community Herbalist from Pacific Rim College in 2016, Nikola started Half Moon Herbals in response to the growing demand for clean, ethically grown and locally sourced Western medicinal herbs. Since, the focus has been on cultivating a supply of medicinal herbs for Naturopathic Doctors, Clinical Herbalists and for her local community through her Herb CSA program. Nikola is passionate about growing medicinal herbs in a way that can also be medicine for the land, and continues to explore ways to do this while offering opportunities to learn and share with other growers.

Nikola was raised in Waterloo Ontario, on the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg, Haudinosaunee, and Neutral peoples. She lived for many years in the West Kootenay Region of BC, on traditional territory of the Sinixt peoples, and was greatly inspired and informed from her time there. Nikola is of Egyptian, Ukrainian and Irish descent, and is grateful for the rich tapestry of teachings and experiences that continue to guide her on her path.
VISION
Herbal medicine is about relationship building, with ourselves, with the plants, and with the land. The use of herbal medicine is woven through the history of all peoples, and it is indeed 'the medicine of the people'. Therefore, Half Moon Herbals holds a place of inclusivity for all peoples.

The vision of Half Moon Herbals is one of allyship with the land and land stewards. It is about moving away from systems of oppression, and into what can be called 'right relationship' with the land from which we live and grow on together.

Half Moon Herbals strives to create space and opportunities for connection to the plants, and is committed to supporting a process of learning that focuses on how to grow healing plants in a healthy way, as well as how to harvest, process and make effective use of the gifts of these herbs.

Together, in gratitude and in joy, we celebrate the ability to learn, grow, share, drink-in and work with each other, the healing herbs and the land.
